“Then Jacob gave Esau … pottage … and he did eat … and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.” Genesis 25:34

What a price! Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of stew. The birthright meant twice as much of his father’s possessions, and becoming head of the family. In those days it was a coveted position. In a moment of weakness, Esau gave it all away. Child of God, don’t take the pottage-wait for the promise!

Some days it will seem like all hell has come against you and you don’t think you can take another day of it. When you reach your limits, you’re on the verge of either a miracle or a mistake. It’s at those moments you must persist and endure. Listen to the Word: “But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 24: 13). Paul said, “we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.” (Acts 14:22). D.L. Moody once said, “Don’t throw your ticket away when the train is in the middle of the tunnel.” You are going to come through. God has promised it!

It’s between the promise and the provision that we get tired and discouraged and want to give up. Don’t do it! Don’t sell your birthright for a quick fix or an easy way out! Stand on His Word, claim His promise, and believe that He will take care of you.
