In 1929, Georgia Tech played the University of California in the Rose Bowl. A California player named Roy Reigels, recovered a fumble, but made a mistake and ran the wrong way. One of his teammates tackled him just before he scored. He was devastated!
During halftime, the California players sat quietly, waiting to hear what the coach had to say. Coach Pierce looked at the team and said, “Men, the same team that played the first half, will start the second, including Reigels.” Roy Reigels responded, “I couldn’t face that crowd in the stadium to save my life. I’ll never play again!” Coach Pierce put his hand on Roy’s shoulder and said, “Son, you made a mistake, but the game is only half over, and I need you to go out there and give me the best you’ve got.” His team won in the second half, and Roy played like a hero. Later he told a friend, “When I realized that my coach still believed in me, I could do nothing less that give him my best.”
Child of God, have you fumbled the ball? Have you run in the wrong direction? Do you feel like quitting? Don’t give up! The coach still believes in you. The One who restored Peter after his weakness and denial, wants to put you back on His team and make you a winner. Just give Him a chance today.
