“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity … for there the LORD commanded the blessing.” Psalm 133:1, 3

When God sees us working together in unity and love, He commands His blessing upon us. Since we know that, why don’t we work harder for unity? One word that comes to mind is “striving.” “An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest” (Luke 9:46, NIV}-Jesus had to deal with the spirit of striving among His disciples. Someone has wisely said, “There is no limit to what can be accomplished if nobody cares who gets the credit.”

Another reason for lack of unity is our failure to walk in love. We are unwilling to accept people as they are, to love them and let the Holy Spirit change them. After all, that’s His job.

Today, we need to pray that God will help us transcend the spirit of striving, pettiness and selfishness, and begin to reach out to others in love. Only a united Church can bring healing to a divided world. In this way, we will experience God’s blessing!
