The Purpose of Life – By Pastor Nate Carter

Pastor Nate Carter

“Through Christ, God has made peace between us and Himself, and God gave us the work of telling everyone about the peace we can have with him … So we have been sent to speak for Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:18, 20, NCV

When my children were young, I went to their room to say goodnight. As I finished praying, my youngest son, Jonathan, spoke up and said, “Daddy, I’ve learned what the purpose of life is.”

I thought to myself, “This is going to be great! What does a six-year-old know about the purpose of life?” And so I responded, “Okay Jonathan, what is the purpose of life?”

In a quiet and simple voice he said without hesitation, “It’s living for Jesus.” My mouth dropped open. I was totally stunned. My six-year-old son shared a profound truth that many never discover in a lifetime. The true essence of success is living for Jesus.

Paul recognized this truth when he wrote: “The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me-to tell people the Good News about God’s grace (Acts 20:24, NCV).” Why not share God’s unconditional love with someone today? You’ll be glad you did!
