Just Like Us — By Pastor Nate Carter

“Elijah was a man with human frailties, just like all of us, but he prayed and received supernatural answers.” James 5 :17a

God has always done more with less than men thought adequate. It seems to be a pattern with God. He chooses the most unlikely to accomplish the unthinkable with the least amount of resources. Think about It! God chose a young shepherd boy named David to defeat a towering giant-with a slingshot! He chose Moses, a man who stuttered, to speak for an enslaved nation an ultimately to lead them to freedom. God chose a beautiful woman named Esther to thwart an evil plot and influence a king to save the nation of Israel. He chose Joseph, who was sold into slavery and later became Pharaoh’s second in command, to spare God’s people from famine and desolation. God’s choices may seem unimpressive, but they are great-not by a criteria that we might use to determine greatness, but by God’s set of values. God chooses the mundane, common and ordinary to accomplish His supernatural purpose and will.

The Bible says that Elijah was just like us-an ordinary person who God used to do extraordinary things. You may think that God could never use you. You’re absolutely wrong. You are perfect for what God wants to do in and through you. The only ability you need is availability. Whisper a prayer and say, “Lord, here am I, use me!”
